Joe Gudmundson, the son of a painter, began his painting career cleaning buckets and brushes for his dad. Shortly after high school, he joined the painter’s apprenticeship program and went to work for his dad at Val Gudmundson Painting. He became an accomplished tradesman and following his entrepreneurial instincts, in 1968, founded Gudmundson Painting.
Joe was customer-service driven. He was hard working and known for his fair-mindedness. He had integrity. He believed in honest, quality work at a fair price. Our company was built around the values and beliefs of our founder. Those beliefs and values hold true today.
In 1976, Nancy Gudmundson, joined her husband in the family business. She and Joe worked as a team. Over the years, Nancy became more involved in the industry, at one point opening her own non-union painting company.
Upon the passing of her husband, with the assistance of our team of long-term staff, Nancy took command and attained WBE certification for Gudmundson Painting. She served for many years as a trustee on the Employee Painters’ Trust Health and Welfare Committee and took part in negotiations for the IUPAT DC 5 Western Washington Area Agreement for the Professional Painting Industry.
At Gudmundson Painting, we believe that nothing is more important than the safety of our employees and clients. That’s why all of our field and project managers, jobsite foremen and commercial painters have been certified in either OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 standards. We work hard to ensure that our entire team is trained in CPR/First aid, fall protection, confined space safety, lead awareness, haz-cert, and scaffold, boom, and scissor lift safety. These certifications protect our employees as well as our clients and the environment. Our field employees receive yearly retraining through IUPAT DC5 Painter Progression courses. We’re a proud member of the AGC Group Retro Program and Safety Team since 1997. Our goal is to be accident-free, but we’re also dedicated to actively managing existing claims and keeping lines of communication open to ensure the wellbeing of all our employees. Our GCO safety and accident prevention programs were developed with the commercial painter in mind. We’re proud to offer adaptive return-to-work programs and reasonable accommodations to help our employees stay on the job. Our employees are our greatest assets, and their safety is always our top priority.
